Discovering The African Grey Parrot

I like the African grey parrot I have found that the African grey parrot is the most popular of parrots for breeders and pet owners alike because they are so cute and their natures are so amicable. There is so much to learn about the African grey parrot and luckily there is a heap of information out there about the parrot. The full name for the parrot is the Congo African Grey or commonly known as the Timneh African Grey and is mainly from Central Africa. The African Grey should be kept in an enviroment that is nutritionally sound and like all parrots should have many toys and company to keep his interest occupied. I have found a bored parrot is a noisy destructive Parrot but a happy occupied Parrot can and will enrich anyones life. Remember too that an African Grey can be expected to live for about fifty to seventy years on average.

A brief description of this most fascinating Parrot, it is a medium grey bird with a few shades of light grey around the body. Its head feathers have a little bit of white edging that give it a some what regal look. The Congo African Grey Parrot has a solid black beak and a reddish tinge on the tail that finishes off the colouring. he parot measures around twelve to fourteen inches from tail to beak and will weigh about four hundred grams or so, depending on diet and enviroment and of course on its exact genus obviously this measurement is also relative to the individual frame of the bird and the weight distribtion.

The Power of Mimicry

I have found also that one of the most popular reasons people of all ages love the African Grey Parrot is its power of mimicry . Most people believe that these lovely birds will only mimic voices but not so they have the power to mimic not only voices but many sounds. Many of these parrots will not start talking until the age of or over the age of one year, but when they do begin to speak and make sounds you may wonder if they will ever stop mimicking and making new sounds so it may be worth while to take care in what is said around your parrot. It is suggested that these birds have the capacity to learn over two thousand full words and several sound mimics.

A bit further information about the intelligence of the African Grey Parrot they have the intelligence rate equivalent of an average five year old clild. They have the emotions of an average two year old child, as well, so taking these two things in to account you can understand my previous comment on boredom. The African Grey Parrot can become quite demanding because of its emotional concoction coupled with its intelligence, so be prepared to provide constant attention through out its development years and create lots of entertainment add new things to his cage and enviroment often and you will have a happy friend,By owning an African Grey.
